In this podcast we try to give a little structure to our lessons with something called, “Fill in the missing pieces”.By giving the framework for the students they catch a pattern quickly. Our examples are all mathematics related; however, this can be transformed to any subject very easily.Students are asked to solve problems out of the normal sequence including backwards. We also talk about how to save a page to the gallery. As always, we have a couple of jokes for you.Hope you can join us.
Hosts Scott Miller and David Sladkey of Naperville Central High School in IL talk about a lesson involving Filling in the Missing Pieces. This lesson structure shows how you can give a simple definition in notebook and still engage students minds. The tip of the day deals with making regular shapes in smartboard like a perfect circle, or hexegon or any shape. Also described in this episode is a activity that you can have your students do when in the middle of class to get their brains and bodies moving a little bit called rocks, paper, scissors, Math. Lastly we cover how to make a brain based activity in powerpoint. We export a smartboard document to powerpoint and then change some settings in powerpoint to make it a timed activity.
