#70 Printing, Exporting, and Importing with Smartboard Notebook Software

This podcast will help you through the basics of printing any of your Smartboard notebook software slides.  There are many ways to print.  You can print with a full page, 2 slides per page, or all the way up to 6 slides per page.  You can choose the slides to print as well.  We show you how to do all this.  We also show you how to import your Powerpoint documents into Smartboard notebook software.  It is nice because the objects still are moveable in smartboard.  You can also take your Smartboard documents and export them into Powerpoint software.  Of course we have a couple of jokes for you.  Don’t miss this episode.

Happy Smartboarding,

Dave and Scott

Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard

I think it is important to communicate your expectations often when dealing with the Smartboard.  That is why I made a Smartboard Slide with all my expectation on it.  I always give this at the begining of the year, and often at times throughout the year.  It is a good reminder about how to treat each other with respect while working together as a class to accomplish a goal.  Here is how I set it up.

1.  Have the students work in pairs.

2.  Have the person who is closest to the door be the reader.

3.  Display the “Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard” for the class to read.

4.  Have each pair of students discuss items that caught their attention.

5.  Call on a few students one at a time in a random fashion to share their thoughts.

6.  Open the discussion up to anyone else who would like to contribute.

Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard

Be respectful to others when they are at the board. We will not laugh at mistakes, or make fun of someone for any reason. Remember you will be up there soon.

You always must justify your answer

You may bring a person up to the board to help you.

If you are not sure what to do, you still must come up to the board, however, you may ask for help from someone who has their hand raised to walk you through the problem.

You will be picked at random to go to the board so be ready at all times with your answer.

You may change what someone else has done at the board. You must justify why you changed it.

Click here to download the slide with the Guidelines on it.  This will take you to the resources page.  Then click on the Smartboard notebook file that says “Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard”

Background Music during a Test using Smartboard

I gave my students a test today and played some background music throughout the test.  The students loved it and I found myself a little more relaxed.  Why don’t you give it a try.  Just download the classical music notebook file from our resources page.  The composer and the length of the music in minutes is located on the slide itself.

Post Smartboard Lessons for your Students

I just wanted to share with you the work that Ed Watson, a math teacher at Naperville Central High School, is doing with his classes.  He is posting all his completed Smartboard Lessons online through Google Sites.  Basically, at the end of the lesson Ed will export his Smartboard document as a PDF.  A PDF is a digital version of the Smartboard slides and is universal so that anyone can read it.   (In Smartboard click on File, then Export, and then PDF and save it to a location on your computer)  After he makes it a PDF he uploads it to his website on Google Sites.  (Ask the tech person at your school to help you upload PDF’s)   Google sites is a very easy to learn and is FREE.  If you have a Google account, then you already have access Google Sites.  Ed just got an email yesterday from a student who has mono and was expressing his appreciation for being able to go online and keep up to date with what happens in class.  Ed says that he uploads the PDF’s before the students get home from school each day and it only takes him a couple of minutes to do.  Here is the link to Ed’s Site to check it out and see it for yourself.  http://sites.google.com/site/honorsprecalculussite/home

Here is a picture of what the students see at Ed Watson’s Site
