Guess the Picture Episode 67 of Teaching with Smartboard

Happy Holidays!

In this podcast we take a look at a template called Guess the picture.  Here is how it works.  You put a picture or a problem or a sentence behind a few squares.  You have a student and their partner go to the Smartboard and delete one square.  They and the rest of the class try to guess what the picture is from the revealed area.  If they don’t guess correctly, another set of two people come up and delete another square.  This occurs until the picture is guessed.  Scott has designed a few cool holiday items for the podcast.  He shows a really nice snowflake maker.

Hope you enjoy the show.

ORDER of IMPORTANCE Episode 66 of Teaching with Smartboard

In this podcast we cover the teaching template called Order of Importance. This is a way to put a set of items in a certain order. However, the order depends on the students choices. The only thing the students have to do is JUSTIFY why they put items in the particular place. It is a great way to get students to engage in the material and take a stand. This can be used in almost any subject and any age. We also go over a few listener submitted letters. We have to admit that we forgot to put in the jokes this week. Some of you may be happy about that. We will definitely put them in next podcast.

Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard

I think it is important to communicate your expectations often when dealing with the Smartboard.  That is why I made a Smartboard Slide with all my expectation on it.  I always give this at the begining of the year, and often at times throughout the year.  It is a good reminder about how to treat each other with respect while working together as a class to accomplish a goal.  Here is how I set it up.

1.  Have the students work in pairs.

2.  Have the person who is closest to the door be the reader.

3.  Display the “Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard” for the class to read.

4.  Have each pair of students discuss items that caught their attention.

5.  Call on a few students one at a time in a random fashion to share their thoughts.

6.  Open the discussion up to anyone else who would like to contribute.

Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard

Be respectful to others when they are at the board. We will not laugh at mistakes, or make fun of someone for any reason. Remember you will be up there soon.

You always must justify your answer

You may bring a person up to the board to help you.

If you are not sure what to do, you still must come up to the board, however, you may ask for help from someone who has their hand raised to walk you through the problem.

You will be picked at random to go to the board so be ready at all times with your answer.

You may change what someone else has done at the board. You must justify why you changed it.

Click here to download the slide with the Guidelines on it.  This will take you to the resources page.  Then click on the Smartboard notebook file that says “Guidelines for Students to go up to the Smartboard”
